To work as a nurse in Ireland, international nurses must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). The process involves two key steps: recognition of qualifications and registration. Applicants must submit their nursing qualifications and professional experience for assessment to ensure they meet Irish standards. Depending on the assessment, some may be required to complete an adaptation and assessment program, which includes supervised practice in an Irish healthcare setting. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency through tests like IELTS or OET is typically required. Once registered, nurses can apply for positions within the Health Service Executive (HSE) or private healthcare providers. It's important to note that non-EU/EEA nurses will also need to secure a work visa to practice in Ireland.
